Camerata Europaea

The concept of Europe has accompanied the work of the chamber orchestra Camerata Europaea since its beginnings in 2005. Europe as myth, as continent and as a vast treasury of musical achievements from more than 45 countries, delivers the materials with which the ensemble creates its concert programmes. Musical impressions emerge, such as ‘Images from five European countries’ - conceived as a musical homage to the five new EU member states, or ‘Rhythm & Strings’, which presents rhythmically accentuated contemporary works from three European countries.

Konzert im Kammermusiksaal der Berliner Philharmonie

Live concerts given by the Camerata Europaea are powered by the stimulating contrasts between the musical works of different European countries. They introduce us to excellent but little-known nineteenth and twentieth century composers, sensitising our hearing to the specific manner in which each composer deals with their country’s traditional music.
The Camerata Europaea comprises musicians from the best classical orchestras in Berlin working together under the dedicated artistic directorship of Maria Makraki. Her declared aim of creating a programme that reflects European diversity means that the CE rubs shoulders with an international audience. Short pieces of selected European classical music performed either by small chamber orchestras or by larger ensembles transform the supporting programmes at congresses, symposiums or receptions into moments of cultural pleasure. Apart from giving concerts in its own right the ensemble can also be commissioned for special performances.
